I have property in Chenango County, specifically the Afton area. We (area neighbors who remain unsigned) were contacted via mail by Chesapeake with an off of $2000.00 per acre with 15% royalty on a 10 year lease. We never contacted any one, just got a big manilla envelope with lease and deed copy and voucher made payable in 90 days if we signed.....left it in cabinet.

Having just joined the coalition Dec 4, I will add my two cents to the recent lease offers. Having read thru the threads and I may have missed it, but the offer we received in the Town of Brookfield in Madison Co was from Norwood Land Services, LLC out of Houston, acquiring leases on behalf of New York Shale Gas located in Fort Worth--surprise surprise :lol:
We were low balled like everyone has been intially at $25/acre and low royalty. Interesting thing is our lease offer expired yesterday and no one has contacted us from the company. We are in no hurry and feel all comments expressed on this discussion board are very similar to our feelings and wishes about this issue. Just wanted to add our support to the whole coalition for being very forward thinking and as you said--you only get one chance to get this right.

I have been contacted by nornew today for 100 per acre and 12.5 on 200+acres I also joined the coalition .I think Ill wait awhile thanks.Any news with you?

My property is located in smyrna ny. The landman said part of my property is already in a well unit and that I should sign the leese so when the well gos online I will start collecting right away.hmmmm what about becoming a non participating owner

Garth where are you he can answer this question. You would get something in the mail to go to court. I would make sure the landman isnt lying,you have a lot of acres 200 they would need i believe 70 percent of leased acres around you to put you in a unit.I wouldnt sign anything until you get all the facts.Garth hello where are you? Can any one verify the $4000.00 per acre sign on bonus this Press Connects article suggests? :?:


"Retaining mineral rights could carry the potential for significant wealth for Broome property owners and for Broome County.

Energy companies have paid up to $4,000 an acre in some parts of the county (Broome)to get access to drilling rights to natural gas in the Marcellus Shale, the largest natural gas deposit in the United States. However, the recession has driven down the price of natural gas by as much as 75 percent, making access to mineral rights less desirable."

The special committee's chairman is Steve Herz, a Windsor Democrat. Other committee members include Republicans Ron Keibel of Whitney Point and Marchie Diffendorf of Kirkwood and Democrats Timothy Cleary of Binghamton and Mario Nirchi of Endicott.
