The fracking moratorium is more than emotion.

Besides the unfounded fears of hobbyist environmentalists that believe natural gas will become a substitute for green technologies instead of a common sense bridge to them, we have some more nefarious concerns that are driving anti-gas sentiment.

We have become aware of an ongoing Rockefeller-led land grab in the Catskills. The Rockefellers and the Natural Resources Defense Council — a group of lobbyist for environmental concerns — have intertwining relationships with the rich and powerful, including Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Cuomo’s advisory committee for natural gas drilling includes Cuomo’s ex-brother-in-law, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an NRDC lawyer, as well as two other senior NRDC attorneys and four other opponents to natural gas (one of those was just hired by the NRDC). Not one of them is an elected official.

There is also an overlapping relationship between the Beaverkill Valley Land Trust, the Catskill Mountainkeeper, the Open Space Institute, the NRDC and others that are all controlled by the Rockefeller family.

As mentioned, the Rockefellers — in cahoots with other New York City blue bloods — have been making a land grab, and the latest development is an NRDC request for a 7-mile exclusionary zone around the area of the grab that would cross Delaware County and also enter Broome County.

Why are they against natural gas development? Lands that go into foreclosure are cheap and they don't want to pay fair market prices. Gas development would put an end to foreclosures. They have also bought property in this manner and sold it back to the state at artificially inflated prices.

We have also heard from various anti-drilling groups that those who have to file bankruptcy and have their heritage and lands foreclosed on are being called “collateral damage.”

Imagine that, being called “collateral damage” by the Rockefellers and other elite blue bloods of the Big Apple.

State lawmakers have treated us despicably. After five years of study by the Department of Environmental Conservation and a health study by the state Health Department was finished in February 2012 — all declaring natural gas development would pose no significant problems — the findings were hidden from the public view for almost a year.

So who will prevail on this issue, the blue bloods of NYC or the Southern Tier blue collars? Who will Cuomo side with, the blue bloods or the blue collars, or will he continue the charade and not decide?

in my opinion, cuomo has no incentive to make a decision until he secures term number two... november 2014 and counting... honestly, i doubt he'll ever allow gas development... 2 more years and counting...

the fact that gas development is generally accepted across this country, represents billions with a "B" to the state in revenue, thousands upon thousands of jobs, etc., will be the overriding factors that inevitably will push this state to hvhf petroleum extraction... will i/we live to see it?.. will i/we benefit? very questionable..................................

Hi Chas, when you used the "old" term "blue bloods" you brought back some memories of gone bye days and raised a question in my feeble mind, is the term inter-changeable with another from that era "robber Barons"?? When we take the time to think about your post, it explains a lot about what has been going on for the past four years.

i wish i could say permitting was just around the corner but i can not... in many ways we've regressed over the past 5 years... i do not blame this completely on cuomo as most do... he's simply the latest obstacle blocking the path... our dec started this by requesting a "pseudo moratorium", patterson obliged and the only reason he had any say was because our illustrious governor spitzer was caught procuring an escort barely old enough to consent... what course would this have followed had spitzer remained governor?.. what if patterson had used his head and suggested the dec dole out permits at a rate that they could properly regulate and kept the politicos at bay?.. digressing into the what ifs obviously doesn't change history but those not aware of history are bound to repeat it...................

nearly 5 years ny... i'm ashamed of my own beloved state........................
